Everyone asks those mind-blowing questions that few have the answers to, and celebrities are no different.

Stephen Colbert found himself curious Wednesday, so he decided to ponder the mysteries of the universe with Tom Hanks on The Late Show in a segment called, "Big Questions With Even Bigger Stars."

Lying down on picnic blankets over a patch of grass, Colbert and Hanks took in the "scenery" before diving into life's mysteries, noticing how the "fireflies are out" and how the "frogs are screaming for sex."

Reptilian noises aside, the Bridge of Spies star and late-night talk show host dove right in. "Hey Tom, why do you think bad things happen to good people?" Colbert asked.

"May it's because God's really old, and his eyes are going," Hanks answered.

"Ooh yeah," Colbert responded. "He can't see who he's smiting."

Colbert then moved on to discuss another popular hypothetical question: What would you do if you had access to a time machine? Hanks said he'd do what "anybody" would do—go back in time and hold himself as a baby.

"And kill Hitler right?" Colbert asked. "Or let the baby kill Hitler."

Hanks liked the sound of that. "Well, that way they can't trace it back to you, and it gives the baby a good sense of accomplishment."

"That would look good on a résumé," Colbert added. "Job experience: Time Traveler. Responsibilities: Hitler killing."

"I'd hire that kid in a second," the 59-year-old Oscar winner replied.

Although this might not be technically considered a "big question," Colbert had to ask Hanks what he missed doing the most now that he's a big star.

"I miss licking stamps," Hanks revealed. "For insurance purposes I can't do my own stunts."

Hanks also wondered what Santa Claus does during his time off in the summer, but according to the former Colbert Report host, Santa isn't vacationing at all! "I think he's Santa on other planets," he speculated.

Not only was Hanks' mind blown, but ours were, too.

The Forrest Gump star also revealed his absolutely amazing idea for a movie that hasn't been made yet, but to find out what it is watch the video above!
