How to Get Away With Murder started off season two with twists galore: Annalise has been shot! Annalise has a lover played by X-Men's Famke Janssen! Annalise took her students to a rave! It was a big episode for Viola Davis and her lead character, but one her mom probably didn't see. That's because she was at a casino, gambling. And that's the way the Emmy winner likes it.

"Listen, like I said, I'm not comfortable with any sex scene. I just don't want my mom seeing it, so what I'm doing is every Thursday night I give her money to go to the casino," Davis said on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Tuesday. "She goes to the casino every single night, but this Thursday especially, she will be going to the casino."

To keep her from just holding the money for her Friday casino trip, Davis said she uses Western Union to ensure her mom is out of the house to get it.

In fact, somebody once stole Davis' mom's wheelchair while she was playing the slot machines. But she did watch Davis take home the Emmy. The How to Get Away With Murder star made history by being the first black woman to win the award in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category. Davis said she had the inspirational speech prepared with the option of two quotes, but she thought the one she used by Harriet Tubman would come off as militant.

"I just thought that moment was bigger than me. It was bigger than an just actress winning in that category—it was the first time an African-American woman had won in that category," Davis said. "I lost the Miss Central Falls Recreation Contest and that literally dictates my entire life."

Not anymore, Viola Davis!

How to Get Away With Murder airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. on ABC.
