Watch: Chelsea Clinton Talks Breastfeeding as a Working Mom

Adapting to life with a new baby must be tough enough, but it's when moms return to work that the struggle can become even more difficult.

Chelsea Clinton opened up to E! News' Maria Menounos about her first year with daughter Charlotte Mezvinksy and said the real challenge arrived when it was time to go back to work after staying home with her newborn daughter for awhile. Having gotten into a routine of breastfeeding her baby, Chelsea learned that it wouldn't be so easy in the real world.

"I think the one thing that I did find challenging was when I went back to work full-time," she told Maria exclusively. "I still was breastfeeding and I was pumping and I was so committed to insuring I could keep doing that for Charlotte, and balancing those logistics was really hard."

But like any other mom, Chelsea learned how to balance baby, work and life, and even learned a lesson or two about not being embarrassed about mommy duties that she has no choice but to do in public.

"I figured it out, but it took a while to figure it out," she admitted. "It also just took lots of, like...it's swallowing my pride and being comfortable with pumping in airport bathrooms and kind of wherever I needed to get it done."

She continued, "I wish there sort of been a guidebook on how do you think about this really, and how do you make this work?"

Only trial, error and a little bit of practice helped her learn what she needed to do for her 1-year-old—with the help of her parents, of course! But now that she is an author, having written It's Your World: Get Informed, Get Inspired & Get Going!, perhaps she'll tackle this kind of parenting guidebook, but it's unlikely.

"I'm guessing recognizing maybe every woman has to figure it out for themselves [is the secret], because each of our situations and decisions are different," she said.

In the meantime, Chelsea, husband Mark Mezvinsky, Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton are enjoying the time they have with their precious little girl. They even spoiled her with a first birthday party!

"It was great. We had lots of balloons," Chelsea told E!. "[Charlotte] loves balloons, lots of bubbles and lots of books."

The former president added, "The whole thing was a hoot. Oh my gosh, she is unbelievable."
