Chrissy Teigen understands why everyone asks when she and John Legend are going to start having kids.
"It's a sweet question. It comes from a good place but sometimes you never know what the person is going through," the supermodel told me at the launch of Verizon's new mobile video service, go90. "You're like, 'I'm trying.' What I really want to say is, 'I'm trying and I can't.'"
Teigen went public a week ago today during a very emotional segment on her new FABLife show about her and Legend's "trouble" having kids.
"I just wanted to talk about it for so long," Teigen told me. "It didn't feel right to tweet like, 'Ugh, doing my IVF shots again.'"
Teigen said she and Legend have received an outpouring of support. "Usually I'm getting crap from people [on social media], but the amount of stories that were shared to both of us was really cool to see," she said. "Like I said, John and I have been going through this for years and it's something that has been a part of our lives and our friends have known. So it's just nice to have a show and kind of acknowledge it to people because I felt like I was keeping a secret from them and it was weird. So it's nice to have all my social media friends know and have them share their stories, too."
Legend is "really happy" their story is out there, Teigen said.
The two are surprised they were able to keep it private for as long as they did. "I think we just have really good people around us that never said anything or else you would have known," Teigen said. "Nobody said a thing. I swear, I have a team of maybe 60 people, John has hundreds and everyone knew. The failures, the successes, everything but it's never gotten out. We've been open about it just never public."
