We all get by with a little help from our friends...even Stephen Colbert!

When Colbert made his debut as the new host of The Late Show on Tuesday night, he had the support of one of his famous friends: Jon Stewart!

The former show of The Daily Show and Colbert's longtime friend made a surprise cameo in Colbert's opening number, and it was pitch-perfect. Literally.

During his first-ever Late Show opening, Colbert sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" with random people throughout New York, taking over a bowling alley, too, before ending at a baseball field. And the umpire at said baseball field? Stewart!

Stewart took off his umpire mask, and said, "Play ball!" As he walked off, Colbert turned, recognizing the ump, and said, "Hey?!"

Now that's what we call a strike. (Sorry, we couldn't resist.)

Of course, Stewart could be returning the favor after Colbert's emotional send-off on Stewart's final episode of The Daily Show in August.

"Here's the thing, Jon," Colbert said. "You said to me and many other people to never thank you because we owe you nothing. It is one of the few times I've known you to be dead wrong. We owe  you—and not just what you did for our career by employing us to come on this tremendous show that you made—we owe you because we learned from you. We learned from you by example how to do a show with intention, how to work with clarity, how to treat people with respect. You were infuriatingly good at your job."

 Colbert + Stewart = friendship goals, y'all.
