The Good Wife actor Dylan Baker played an off-screen superhero on Tuesday.

The 55-year-old helped save his elderly neighbor after a fire broke out in their high-rise Manhattan apartment complex.

Baker says the burning apartment was right next door to his own home on the 33rd floor of the building.

"We had just returned home," he told New York City's ABC 7. "All of a sudden the alarm went off in the hall and I went out and there was smoke."

He continues, "So I went to her door and pounded on it and called her name. I opened the door and there were flames in the kitchen and the living room and smoke everywhere. I couldn't go in."

Baker had to leave to ensure his family—wife of 15 years Becky Gelke and their daughter Willa—was out of the building safely, but he notified officials immediately.

Firefighters arrived a few minutes later and pulled the woman from the apartment. She remains in critical condition at the hospital.

Baker is known for his role as Colin Sweeney in The Good Wife, which garnered three Emmy nominations for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series in 2010, 2012 and 2014. He most recently joined Helen Mirren in the Broadway play The Audience.

Baker will also star alongside Kerry Washington and Grace Grummer in HBO's highly-anticipated Antia Hill movie Confirmation. Cobie Smulders was also cast for the film, but broke her leg in early July and had to pull out just weeks before she began filming.

The biopic follows the story of Hill, the attorney who sued Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas for sexual harassment in 1991. Hill was one of Thomas' aides at the Department of Education and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and was called upon to testify against him during the hearings.
