Looks like Lupita Nyong'o is rocking easy, low-maintenance braids for the end of summer, and we definitely dig it.

The actress stepped out in New York City—where she's in town for her role in the upcoming play Eclipsed—on Sept. 2 sporting a back-grazing cornrow style that stands out in contrast to the simple, cropped Afro she's worn for most of the season. The new lock look precedes her on-stage turn as a Liberian woman in the Danai Gurira drama, which will begin previews at the Public Theater on Sept. 29, and run through the beginning of November.

We're a fan of braids in all incarnations, and Lupita's long style is a cool, I-woke-up-like-this way to ring in fall. Nyong'o's next on-screen role, by the way, is the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which hits theaters on Dec. 18. (Yep—you know we're already counting down to when we get to see all those undoubtedly stunning red carpet gowns she'll twirl in.)
