InstagramChris Brown is facing a new lawsuit from a fan who claims the singer acted negligently during a recent nightclub performance in California.
According to documents obtained by E! News, Paul Briley is suing Brown and Fiesta Nightclub for negligence after a shooting on Jan. 10 left the fan shot and wounded.
The plaintiff argues that the defendants "failed to provide adequate security" and "failed to implement security procedures." Briley is now seeking damages for all of his "physical, mental and emotional pain and suffering" he endured and continues to experience after being shot.
After learning about the filing, Brown's team called the lawsuit "frivolous" and believes the case will be dismissed.
"It is a poor reflection of our society that violence is so prevalent and it is always a tragedy when someone is physically harmed," Brown's rep said in a statement to E! News. "However, this is a completely frivolous lawsuit. We expect that the case will be dismissed and in future, to avoid these reoccurring meritless lawsuits directed at Chris Brown, we plan to seek damages from all parties and their lawyers."
Back in January, the R&B singer was performing "Loyal" at the nightclub when gun shots were fired. While Brown was unharmed, police say five attendees suffered from at least one gunshot wound each.
The lawsuit also comes shortly before Brown's baby mama decided to speak out about completely different reports about her relationship status.
After speculation surfaced that rapper King Ba was in a relationship with Nia Guzman, baby Royalty's mom had to set the record straight.
"The allegations that have been made against Nia Guzman are completely false," her spokesperson said in a statement to E! News. "Nia has not been in a dating relationship with Ba for several months and she has no criminal record and has never took park in any criminal activity with Ba."
As for her ongoing custody battle with Brown, Guzman's team insists they are simply trying to get a fair amount of financial support from the rapper.
"Nia is not trying to obtain any fame or additional money from Chris Brown other than the child support that is expected for the raising of their child," the statement read. "She asks that the press and general public would stop hurling false accusations at her and her daughter."
