Coach Reboot with Craig T. Nelson Not Going Forward at NBC

The nostalgia train just lost a car. 

NBC is no longer going forward with its Coach reboot, E! News has confirmed. 

The reboot would have followed Coach Fox (Craig T. Nelson, reprising his original role) as he came out of retirement to help his son coach a new football team at a school in Pennsylvania. 

NBC had ordered thirteen episodes of the new series, but only produced a pilot and then decided to scrap the project entirely. According to Deadline, Nelson will still be paid for all thirteen episodes. 

Coach ran on ABC from 1989 to 1997, and starred Nelson as the coach of a Big Ten football team at Minnesota State University. The series' original writer, Barry Kemp, was set to return to write the new series. 

On one hand, a Coach revival seemed totally out of left field when it was first announced back in March. On the other hand, TV reboots are huge right now. Just ask The X-Files, or Heroes, or Full House, or Dallas, or Twin Peaks, or the document we have saved on our computers labeled "Friends...Again." 

We guess this means we now won't be getting the Alf reboot that NBC president Bob Greenblatt joked about during NBC's press tour this summer, and we genuinely can't decide if we're happy about that or sad that we won't get to see what a 2015 Alf actually looks like. 

Coach was originally set for midseason, but was never given a premiere date, and would have also starred Malcolm Barrett and Bill Fagerbakke.
