Watch: Caitlyn Jenner Struggles With Feeling "Normal"

Caitlyn Jenner is learning to choose her words more carefully.

In a sneak peek from this Sunday's episode of I Am Cait, she sits down with Jenny Boylan, the Anna Quindlen Writer in Residence and professor of English at Barnard College of Columbia University. "It would be very attractive to me to have a guy treat me like a woman," Jenner confesses to her friend. Boylan's eyes widen in disbelief. "What does that mean?" she asks. Jenner, who came out as transgender in April, responds, "Uh, that you would be treated like a normal woman."

Boylan, the national co-chair of GLAAD, is offended by that, too. She asks, "What do you mean 'a normal woman?'" Though her intention is not to offend, Jenner says she wants to be treated "like any other woman on the street, and not make it this big trans thing, or this or that. Just a normal relationship."

After taking a deep breath, Boylan gives her friend a reality check.

"So, you know what, Caitlyn Jenner? You are a normal woman, right now, today. A man is not...You don't need a man to make you a woman. A woman can make you a woman," Boylan says as Jenner nods in agreement. "I think it's a thing that women do: we look to men to give us self-worth...Now that you're in the sisterhood, you have gone to such trouble to be a woman; don't be a stupid one. Be a smart one."

Jenner has made it her mission to learn more about the transgender community, and Boylan—as well as several other transgender women—have been instrumental in helping her do just that. For example, when Jenner, Candis Cayne and Chandi Moore met with members of New York City's Translatina Network in June, she told the organization's president, Cristina Herrera, that she was eager to hear her story. "My sisters here have been teaching me an awful lot about this community," she said, including "some things that I had no idea were even going on."
