"You can probably draw your own conclusions as to why she didn't make an appearance," a source tells E! News of Fox

Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green's separation may have seemed like it came out of left field, but some might have already suspected something was up with the Hollywood pair.

Sure, they hadn't been seen out in public together in quite some time, but busy schedules and the fact that these two were already known to be very private with their personal lives would seem like credible excuses as to why that was.

However, the possibility that red flags began to pop up probably began when TV viewers saw the former 90210 star's appearance on the latest season of Flipping Out.

Green filmed Bravo's hit reality show from November 2014 through April 2015, and all seemed fine and normal business as usual.

As shown by the premiere episode, which aired on July 1, the star was working with the show's hosts Jeff Lewis and Jenni Pulos to renovate a Camarillo home intended for him, Fox and their two sons, Noah and Bodhi, to live in—not to flip.

Sounds fine, right? Right. Except the first eyebrow-raise came when viewers realized that Fox, not once, appeared on the show with her husband. Not only that, but when Lewis or Pulos asked about her, BAG seemed keep the conversation to a minimum.

OK, fine. Busy schedules, privacy, we get it. However, now, a source tells E! News that while Megan was never slated to be on the show, "You can probably draw your own conclusions as to why she didn't make an appearance."

But that wasn't even the major clue that these two were on rocky territory.

On the seventh episode of the season, which aired on Aug. 12, Jeff Lewis went back to the property to address some flooding issues.

In the next scene, however, he gets a call from Brian who informs Jeff that he won't be remodeling the home after all—he's decided to sell it. And never gives an explanation as to why.

Although the reason still hasn't been clearly identified, it's assumed that the news of their separation had something to do with it. Especially since reports said the couple decided to take some time apart six months ago (meaning it occurred while he was filming).

"They're on friendly terms for the sake of the kids," an insider told Us Weekly. "They just want to do their own things." Similarly, a source tells People, "They will always love each other very much and are devoted to their kids. Anything could happen in the future, but for now they've decided it's best to take some time apart."

The exes have two sons together: Noah Green, 2, and Bodhi Green, 18 months. Brian has a son, Kassius Green, 13, from a prior relationship with actress Vanessa Marcil, with whom he starred on Beverly Hills, 90210.

Megan, 29, and Brian, 42, were last seen together in Beverly Hills June 9. Megan stepped out sans wedding ring (with her kids) Sunday; Brian was spotted wearing his ring at a gym in L.A. Aug. 6.

"They fight about her career," a source tells Us Weekly of Fox, who spent the summer shooting the sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in New York City. "He would prefer she focus on the family more than being obsessed with getting roles."

Brian, meanwhile, wrapped FX's Anger Management in 2014.

Reps for the actors have not responded to E! News' request for comment.
