Lenny Robinson, better known to most as the "Baltimore Batman," died after being hit by a car on I-70 Sunday night. He was 51.

Per a local Fox affiliate, Robinson's Batmobile, a black Lamborghini, broke down on the interstate near Hagerstown, Md., so he went to check the engine. While he was standing in the fast lane, he was struck by a Toyota Camry and suffered fatal injuries. Troopers pronounced him dead at the scene. The driver of the Camry was said to be uninjured; no charges have been filed.

The Baltimore (or Route 29) Batman was known for visiting terminally ill children at nearby hospitals and had also made appearances at schools to talk about bullying. But he didn't always stay in Maryland—Robinson hit the road in 2012, traveling the country to dole out Batman toys to children in hospitals along the way.

An Owings Mills resident, Robinson gained notoriety that same year when he was pulled over in Silver Spring, Md., in his Batmobile for not showing proper tags. He was dressed in full costume and footage of the stop went viral. Robinson became president of Superheroes for Kids, Inc. after selling his commercial cleaning business.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Robinson and his family.
