In comments made on Scott Vener's Apple Music's Beats 1 radio show OTHERtone, which airs this Sunday, the 42-year-old "Happy" singer-songwriter and The Voice coach talked about his first face-to-face meeting with the late King of Pop, who appeared to be rather busy with someone else at the time.
"We get into the trailer. It's a two-story trailer. The trailer has stairs, OK? The assistant comes in, like, 'You guys can have a seat.' So we sit down," Williams said. "He comes in, he's tall, he's standing there, two beautiful women walk in. He kisses one, like, full on, for a moment. It ain't like no peck. It's like a real situation. They looked Brazilian."
"He just was the king of catching you off guard," he added.
Jackson, who died at age 50 in 2009, had dated female celebrities such as Tatum O'Neal and Lisa Marie Presley, who became his first wife in 1994. The two famously packed on the PDA onstage at the MTV Video Music Awards that year. They divorced in 1996. Maureen McCormick, who played Marcia Brady on The Brady Bunch series, said in her 2008 memoir that she had also dated Jackson.
Williams also recalled how Jackson behaved when they interacted another time, over the phone. At the time, he was working with Justin Timberlake and thought one of his friends was pulling a prank on him.
"I heard someone eating popcorn in my ear and that's how I knew it was him," he said. "He was just the king."
"He's like, 'Hey, OK, you working with Justin? Ah, that's really nice. That's great. OK cool. Alright, cool, well, you guys have a great session, tell Justin I said, 'Hello.' Hangs up," Williams said. "Justin was like, 'Who was that? Michael?' I'm like, 'Yeah...how did you know?' He's like, 'Yeah, man, he does that.'"
