Jason Segel stopped by Live! With Kelly and Michael on Tuesday to discuss his upcoming movie The End of the Tour and revealed he put on "about 30, 40 pounds" to play the role of acclaimed novelist David Foster Wallace

"No, the first week is fun and after that, every day feels like Thanksgiving night," the 35-year-old actor told Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan when asked if it was fun to pack on the pounds. "Like you're just done."

He added: "You have no energy or anything like that."

While mandatory weight gain may sound great to some, Segel said he had to go to extremes in order to reverse crash diet.

Namely, he only ate Hot Pockets.

"By the end, I was running out of time. I had about two weeks left so I put myself on a Hot Pocket diet, which was two Hot Pockets every three hours," he shared, admitting it was "horrible" before Ripa chimed in, "As a woman, we would have to look at a Hot Pocket and we would gain 10 pounds. It's amazing."

"You know what's ridiculous?" Segel continued, "I was eating like 12 Hot Pockets a day. I was so sick of them and I swore I would never eat another Hot Pocket and if you put a Hot Pocket  right now, I would eat them."

"The man is a major movie star," Ripa jokingly said to the crew, "Can you please get him a Hot Pocket?"

This isn't the first time Segel has made headlines for his weight loss. He previously shed a significant amount of weight back in 2013 after adopting a new lifestyle.

"I've just been living healthy, exercising, eating right—no more midnight pizzas," the actor told Us Weekly at the time. "This time when I take my shirt off, I've made a promise to myself, it doesn't have to be funny."
