Finding out you're going to be a dad is a piece of huge news, so it's no surprise that Louis Tomlinson turned to mentor and boss Simon Cowell for a bit of advice upon finding out that Briana Jungwirth is expecting.

In an interview with The Sun, Cowell, a father himself, revealed what he told the 23-year-old One Direction singer and how he feels this will affect the boy band going forward.

"I said to him, 'You man up. You're fortunate because you're in a position to be able to look after the baby and not worry too much about that,'" he told the U.K. publication. "But I also told him, 'I've received bad calls in my life but this is not one of them. This is your business but I'm here for you.'"

The 55-year-old also made clear that the news, which some Directioners did not take well, is a good thing, not a bad one. "He didn't kill anyone. He got someone pregnant," he said.

"It happens every day all over the world. Again, Louis has got great family around him and, look, it's a plus, not a negative."

In fact, sources told E! News that the duo, who met earlier this year after Tomlinson split with girlfriend Eleanor Caldor, is "super excited about it." Although they aren't a couple, Tomlinson has said he will be a very "hands on" dad throughout her pregnancy and beyond.

"Louis is happy and very excited about becoming a dad and he thinks Briana will be an amazing mother. It was a surprise at first, but he and Briana are very, very close friends and this has brought them even closer," a mutual friend of the couple told People magazine.

But now that Zayn Malik has left the "Night Changes"-singing band and Tomlinson is going to be a dad, what's going to happen to our favorite group?! Cowell isn't so sure they'll stay together.

"In terms of the band, they've got enough hits now they can take some time off and do some other stuff they want to do," he explained to The Sun. "Then I hope they'll have a little bit of time apart and want to get back together again. It's a fun job, but it's absolutely their decision."

Cowell also confirmed that Malik had been dropped from his Syco label, a subsidiary of Sony. "Well, because it was his decision to leave the group and we hadn't asked him to do it, I felt my main responsibility was to the band. They didn't ask for it to happen either and I did sign One Direction as a group," he explained to the paper. "But luckily within Sony there are a lot of labels who are really good. I had a feeling there was one particular label who would love to have him and they did."

"It enables them to treat him as a priority and us to carry on with what we're doing with the boys," he continued. "It also means no one has any nerves about whether we're working harder on them or him."
