The Arizona Cardinals player teamed up with PETA to create a public service announcement to demonstrate the dangers of leaving your dog in a hot car unattended.
The 23-year-old illustrated the threats of what could happen by getting into an SUV that was parked in 90-degree weather. "I seriously couldn't imagine leaving my dog in the car like this," the Honey Badger said while still inside.
It only took a few minutes before Mathieu was fanning himself, sweating excessively and wiping his face with his shirt. At one point, it started to get too hot to handle.
Mathieu called it quits after eight minutes, when the car reached a scorching 120 degrees. By the time he stumbled out, his T-shirt was drenched, and the PSA reminds us, dogs don't have the same capabilities we do (they can't sweat, and they can't just open the door when it gets unbearable).
"If you're going to make a dog a part of your family, then make him a part of your family," Mathieu said. "Don't treat him like you wouldn't treat someone you cared about or someone you loved."
The pro athlete shared the video on his Facebook page and simply wrote, "Dogs can't survive being trapped in a hot car & neither could I!"
