Back By Popular Demand: Instagram Is Unblocking ''Curvy''

Users are no longer able to search the #Curvy hashtag because apparently it violates nudity guidelines

UPDATE: After a frenzy of criticism over last week's decision to pull the plug on the search term "curvy," Instagram has announced that they're bringing it back.

The social media platform released the following statement earlier today with regards to their decision:

"We want people to be able to express themselves, and hashtags are a great way to do that. At the same time, we have a responsibility to act when we see hashtags being used to spread inappropriate content to our community. In the case of #curvy, we don't like putting restrictions around a term that many people use in very positive ways, so we have decided to unblock the hashtag while taking steps to ensure that it's not used as a vehicle for bad content."

________

We went on Instagram today and stumbled across the hashtag #dildo. Don't ask us how we got there (long story), but we were met with some lovely pornographic photos of people, um, "testing" dildos. We clicked right out because that's how you end up with uncomfortable HR meetings at the office.

But if you want to search the term #curvy to check out plus-sized people or maybe see what your favorite curvy models are sporting, sorry about it. You can't. But if you need to see what people are doing with bright purple dildos, well, that is perfectly fine.

As you can probably tell, we are bit confused and actually downright offended that Instagram recently removed the ability to search the term "Curvy."

The photo-sharing site confirmed to E! News they blocked it, and it's their prerogative to do so. However, the inconsistencies about what they allow and what they don't allow is making us roll our eyes.

Instagram is quick to note that the block has nothing to do with the term "curvy" itself; they decided to remove the search function for it because it was reportedly often being used to share images and videos that violated their Community Guidelines, specifically, the nudity aspect.

But then why are we able to search "vaginas," "dildo," "strap on," bitch" "fat,"  and terms associated with promoting eating disorders? We found all kinds of nudity and photos that definitely violated many Community Guidelines. What gives, Instagram? We can't search for a curvy girl in a bikini but we are free to stare at girls sporting nothing but a thong with the hashtag #ED and #ribcage? And not to mention all those strap on pics! Surely that's not consistent with your guidelines.

To be fair, as noted by Mashable, you can still search for "curvy girl" or "curvy fashion." However, we all know the reason for this ban was because users were reporting more photos with the term "curvy" than say, with the term "dildo." That kind of stuff has happened before.

So, to sum up regarding Instagram searches: no female nipples and no curves. But dildos for all!

Instagram had no comment regarding the remove of the "curvy" search term.
