Watch: Is Emma Stone Woody Allen's New Muse?

Don't be so modest!

Emma Stone first worked with Woody Allen in 2014's Magic in the Moonlight, and she teamed up with the director a second time in Irrational Man, in theaters today. Still, she's not comfortable being called his muse. "I tend to just disagree, but I did do two movies with him, so...you know," Stone told E! News.

During a recent press junket interview, Stone said her favorite Allen film "kind of switches all the time," but her favorite at the moment is 1973's Sleeper. "I love the kind of wacky, outlandish satire," she said.

In Irrational Man, Joaquin Phoenix plays a philosophy professor who suffers an existential crisis and begins an affair with a student (Stone). "I'm hesitant to give away the movie because the trailer makes it look like a lighthearted romp," the 26-year-old actress said, "but I don't think it is a lighthearted romp!"

Unlike her character, Maria Menounos asked, "Do you listen to your instincts as much as you wish you did?" Stone replied, "No, never as much as I wish I did. It was better when I was younger, too, when there was less complication in life, it's easier to just kind of do...it's like a toddler. 'That's mine! I want that!' But it's harder to do that as you, you know, have more life to balance...That's the great thing as an actor: that's like your entire job, to listen to your instincts—at least when you're playing a character."

In one scene, the actress plays piano for Phoenix's character. "I brought my mom to watch the movie and she burst out laughing through the whole scene. She was just hysterically laughing. She was like, 'You play the piano? Yeah, right! What are you doing? How does anyone believe you?'" Stone recalled.

Stone and her co-stars attended the Irrational Man premiere in L.A. Thursday.

The film's after-party was held at Hakkasan. Stone arrived around 9:30 p.m. and joined Phoenix and Parker Posey in a private VIP area at the Svedka-sponsored soiree. "For a good portion of the evening, Emma was at the table intently chatting with her mom. They were in deep conversation for about 40 minutes," an attendee tells E! News. "There were moments when someone would come over and ask to take a photo with her, which she'd happily do. Then she would resume her conversation with her mom."

Stone left through a back entrance a little after 11:00 p.m.
