Jeffrey Dean Morgan has got his eye on Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies). Morgan will be a series regular on The Good Wife, joining the CBS series in the upcoming season seven.

Morgan will play Alex, a "calm" and "experienced" hourly investigator hired by Alicia Florrick, E! News has confirmed. "We've loved and admired Jeffrey Dean Morgan for years," executive producers Robert and Michelle King said in a statement. "And we were thrilled to hear that Julianna did too, so it was a no-brainer to ask him to join our troupe." Wonder what Kalinda would say about his credentials...

Morgan's other TV credits include Magic City, Grey's Anatomy, Extant and Supernatural. A new addition for season seven also includes Cush Jumbo. Morgan and Jumbo are plugging some holes in the series.

Archie Panjabi left the show at the end of season six. Matthew Goode, who joined the show in season five, will also not return as a series regular.

There has been talk of season seven being The Good Wife's last, but CBS is game for more. "They are visionaries, they're inspired," CBS boss Nina Tassler said of husband and wife co-creators Robert and Michelle King. "As long as they want to continue producing and writing, we love having that show on our air and are very proud of it."

The Good Wife returns on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 9 p.m. on CBS.
