It's one of the great mysteries of our history, right up there with what happened to Amelia Earhart and what the hell is that on Donald Trump's head?

Ever since queen Regina George told Gretchen Weiners to "stop trying to make 'fetch' happen" because "it's not going to happen" in Mean Girls, we've wondered exactly why that catchphrase never happened. People don't use it unless to quote the movie, so we guess Regina George was right. But…why?!

Mean Girls star Jonathan Bennet (he played dream boat Aaron Samuels) did an interview with Huffington Post to talk about his new Food Network show Cake Wars. Not only did he talk about a reunion possibility (or lack thereof) but he finally confirmed why "fetch" was never meant to happen.

Food Network/Paramount Pictures

"'Fetch' hasn't happened because people still try to make it happen," he said. "If people are still gonna try to make it happen, it's not gonna happen. I think that's a good PSA to do. Stop trying to make fetch happen! It hasn't happened because you're trying to make it happen."

You hear that, everyone?! Stop trying to make it happen and "fetch" will happen naturally! If you love something, let it go. If it comes back, keep it forever. If it doesn't, it was never yours to begin with.

So just apply that to the word "fetch" and we might make it happen in the next 20 years or so.

By the way, about that Mean Girls reunion…

"To clear the record, it's not that I don't want to have a Mean Girls reunion," he insisted. "I'm just tired about everyone asking about it. Because if I knew, you would know. It's not that I don't want there to be a reunion. It's just I don't know when, so that's what I always say. Mean Girls reunions are like 'fetch.'"

Grool.
