And obviously, Mindy Kaling knows this rule all too well.
The Inside Out actress celebrated her 36th birthday wearing a pink Planned Parenthood t-shirt designed by gal pal Lena Dunham and pink pajama pants with the famous Paul Frank animated monkey on them.
She topped off her b-day look with some very large sunglasses and—what else—a gold crown and dined on McDonald's while watching the scary movie It Follows.
But the creative writer-actress wasn't done having fun and tweeted a birthday wish to Dunham:
"I would also love a dubsmash of @lenadunham doing a portion of @tomhanks iconic 'there's no crying in baseball' speech!"
And the Girls star did not disappoint.
Jack Antonoff's girlfriend took to Instagram and showed her love for The Mindy Project star by delivering one of the funniest dubsmash videos we have ever seen.
Dunham wrote: "Your bday wish is my command @mindykaling."
The director appeared to be on the set of her hit HBO show when she filmed the lip-sync vid but that didn't stop her from embracing her inner Jimmy Dugan from the 1992 film A League of Their Own.
Dunham looks straight in the camera and mouths the famous "Are you crying? Are you crying? There's no crying...there's no crying in baseball!" lines that were first delivered by Tom Hanks.
Lena, does this mean we can tweet you our birthday requests, too?
Kaling also showed off her generous side for her birthday (as if we needed another reason to love her) and at the same time indulged in one of her favorite pastimes: shopping!
The Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me author asked her close to 4.10 million twitter followers to let her know their go-to charities and the reason they love them so much and she would donate.
Mindy, stop stealing our hearts! Again!
