Tommy Chong, half of the comedic duo Cheech & Chong, is undergoing treatment for rectal cancer, his rep confirmed to E! News.

The 77-year-old, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2012, told Us Weekly Tuesday he's "had some medical issues lately," adding, "I got diagnosed with rectal cancer."

Chong, a well-known marijuana aficionado, credited the substance for helping to cure his cancer in 2012. "I've got prostate cancer, and I'm treating it with hemp oil, with cannabis," he told CNN in 2012. "So [legalizing marijuana] means a lot more to me than just being able to smoke a joint without being arrested."

The comedian said he was drug-free for about three years, and it was during this time that he began having prostate-related problems. "So I know it had nothing to do with cannabis," he said. "Cannabis is a cure."

In 2013, Chong declared himself to be cancer-free in a CelebStoner.com blog post. "That's right," he wrote. "I kicked cancer's ass!"

He credited a doctor-recommended change in diet, supplements, "hemp oil (hash oil)" and "a session with a world-renowned healer, Adam Dreamhealer" for ridding him of the disease. "So the magic plant does cure cancer with the right diet and supplements," he wrote.

After successfully beating prostate cancer, Chong went on to compete on the 19th season of Dancing With the Stars. He and professional partner Peta Murgatroyd didn't advance beyond the semi-finals, but as Chong said after their elimination, "I just showed old stoners can perform with they need to!"

Chong has not revealed what method of treatment he's undergoing to treat his current rectal cancer or whether it involves cannabis substances. Whatever the case may be, we wish him the very best.
