Some may want to knock Rachel Dolezal down. But for Keri Hilson, she's ready to defend the civil rights activist.

Just days after the former president of the Spokane, Wash., chapter of the NAACP was accused of lying about her race, Hilson is giving her fans a different perspective to consider.

"Let's just all thank #RachelDolezal. Identity, pathological, & parental issues aside, she's doing more than most of us do for ourselves," the "Knock You Down" and "Pretty Girl Rock" singer tweeted. "It is really weird tho. She took it pretty far with slave whips & what not. Levels. Deep."

She continued, "I'm not sayin she doesn't have serious ISSUES, I'm just saying don't knock her intentions or discredit her efforts. @NAACP stands by her work."

The drama first began when Dolezal's mother told a local NBC affiliate that the family had no African ancestry. But according to news outlets, Dolezal once identified as black, white and American Indian.

"One's racial identity is not a qualifying criteria or disqualifying standard for NAACP leadership," the NAACP said to E! News in a statement earlier in the week. "The NAACP Alaska-Oregon-Washington State Conference stands behind Ms. Dolezal's advocacy record."

Dolezal has yet to comment on the scandal.

And while some are still very much upset by the revelation, others like Hilson believe there is so much more to the story that has yet to be uncovered.

"I don't defend her, I just don't like to assume or pass judgment on people's hearts. WE don't really know her motives. Only GOD," she tweeted Saturday. "Hey, she got outta bed every morning & did excellent work for the advancement/equality of MY ppl. THAT affects me. Let God handle the rest."

Hilson concluded, "Just my personal opinion. You don't need to agree. Or thank her. LOL."
