Poor thing!

Little Maisie Gregory was probably preparing for this moment over and over again, and when the big time came to meet Queen Elizabeth II, the 6-year-old was also welcomed with a surprise smack to the face that ended up overshadowing her memorable meet and greet.

According to local reports, Maisie was selected to continue a regimental tradition which included wearing a traditional Welsh dress while handing a posy of flowers to the Queen. The tiny tot looked adorable as she curtsied in front of the monarch (you could tell she practiced), but when the soldier went to salute the Queen, there was impact.

A local reporter's video, which was uploaded on Twitter, shows that the lance corporal at a Colours Parade for the Royal Welsh Regiment in Cardiff was standing a bit too close to Gregory, because he ended up smacking the hat off her head.

The Queen didn't seem to notice but, as soon as she left, the soldier immediately turned around to apologize to Maisie and her mom, Joanne Gregory. The young girl, who is understood to be the daughter of Regimental Sergeant Major Martin Gregory, was seen holding her face after the royal slap, but her mother reassured the soldier that she was fine.

The monarch walked down the Millennium Stadium tunnel to present the Royal Welsh Regiment with their new colors in a ceremony which was the final formal recognition of The Royal Welsh.
