Are you ready to rediscover Fame

Lifetime is developing a reboot of the iconic hit 1980 movie and TV series Fame, E! News has confirmed. The new Fame will be a reimagining of the classic '80s series, which starred Debbie Allen, Gene Anthony Ray, Carlo Imperato and Lori Singer, and was created by Christopher Gore. While the film and series before it were set in high school, the new show will center on a group of adults struggling to balance their pressure of life at their performing arts college with the trials of their everyday lives.

Set to recreate Fame for Lifetime? So You Think You Can Dance and American Idol's Nigel Lythgoe, with Gossip Girl and Smash's Josh Safran set to write the script.

The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news of Fame's pick up at Lifetime.

Of course, reboots and revivals are the latest trend in Hollywood, especially on TV. Full House is set to make a comeback, thanks to Netflix's Fuller House, while NBC is relaunching Coach with Craig T. Nelson. CBS recently found success with The Odd Couple, MTV rebooted the Teen Wolf franchise and is looking to score again with its upcoming take on Scream. Plus, new small screen takes on Rush Hour and Limitless are coming this fall.

But this isn't the first time Fame has tried to make a comeback: In 2009, a film remake, starring Kelsey Grammer, Megan Mullaly and Bebe Neuwirth, failed to score big at the box office.
