Remember when you were so happy and giddy and excited because it was announced that Tron 3 was happening and life just seemed so grand? Well, sorry.
Unfortunately, it seems like the news got out a little too soon, and now one of the Disney franchise's stars, Olivia Wilde, has confirmed to her Twitter followers that the flick isn't happening. But, because she's such a gem, the gorgeous actress offered some good news, too!
Taking to Twitter to address the news, Wilde wrote:
OK, so it's more so good news for her (because that just sounds so depressing), but if she's happy, we're happy? Look, we're doing our best to stay positive here, people.
It was announced in April that Wilde and co-star Garrett Hedlund would be reprising their characters from 2010's Tron: Legacy for the upcoming flick.
When reports that a sequel was underway first surfaced, it was said that the sci-fi film would be directed once again by Joseph Kosinski. While plot details were never revealed, the primary reports also stated that production was slated to begin shooting this fall, likely in Vancouver, and Justin Springer was going to be involved as a producer.
Not much information connected to pulling the plug on the project was offered, other than the simple fact that Tron 3 was never officially greenlit to begin with. Fans haven't given up, however, and there's currently a petition circling the Internet with 18,000 signatures and counting to try and revive the film.
Legacy was the sequel to the 1982 sci-fi film starring Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner, which took place inside a computer world known as the Grid. The original film wasn't a huge success at the box office during its original release, but it sparked a cult following in later years.
Decades later, Disney revisited the plot and resurfaced the popular movie by revealing that Bridge's computer programmer character had a son (Hedlund) who jumps into the Grid to find his father. Meanwhile, Wilde was introduced as Quorra, an ass-kicking algorithm in human form.
