Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee: I Should Have Said I Was Transgender So I Could Shower With Girls

Governor's previous comments resurface and continue to make us shake our head

Sigh.

Monday proved to be a historic day for the LGBT community when Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce Jenner, made her debut on the cover of Vanity Fair, which sparked a conversation about transgender people. There was an overwhelming response of positivity and support, minus a few hiccups here and there, and then there's good ole Mike Huckabee.

(With the release of her Vanity Fair cover on June 1, Caitlyn has chosen to publicly identify as a woman and E! News will refer to her using female pronouns. In stories published prior to this date, Caitlyn was referred to as Bruce and male pronouns were used.)

The presidential candidate touched on the topic of people who are transgender during a speech at the 2015 National Religious Broadcasters Convention in Nashville, Tenn., in February. And, as you may have already guessed, his comments will make you shake your head so hard.

He began by identifying transgender people as a "threat."

"For those who do not think that we are under threat, simply recognize that the fact that we are now in city after city watching ordinances say that your 7-year-old daughter, if she goes into the restroom cannot be offended and you can't be offended if she's greeted there by a 42-year-old man who feels more like a woman than he does a man," Huckabee told the crowd.

The governor continued by offering this gem that is so absurd, it's laughable.

"Now I wish that someone told me that when I was in high school that I could have felt like a woman when it came time to take showers in PE. I'm pretty sure that I would have found my feminine side and said, 'Coach, I think I'd rather shower with the girls today.' You're laughing because it sounds so ridiculous doesn't it?"

Why yes, Mike. Very ridiculous, especially since that little scenario you so graciously offered doesn't correlate at all to someone who is transgender.

Unfortunately, he didn't stop there. Huckabee added, "There is something inherently wrong about forcing little children to be a part of this social experiment. I'm not against anybody. I'd just like for somebody to bring their brain to work some day and not leave it on the bedstand when they show up to govern."

Hey, speaking of children, let's not forget that the Republican candidate also spoke out recently in support of Josh Duggar amid the shocking molestation allegations.

The Duggar family was making headlines because of a recently unearthed Arkansas police report which states that Josh was interviewed back in 2006 in response to an accusation that he had sexually abused underage girls in 2002 and 2003.

We'll just leave it at that.
