Is Chris Pine set to appear in his first superhero film?

The 34-year-old Star Trek actor is in negotiations about starring in Wonder Woman alongside main star and Israeli Fast & Furious actress Gal Gadot, 30, a source told E! News on Wednesday.

According to The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, he is being eyed for the role of Steve Trevor, the love interest of Wonder Woman, aka Amazon princess and warrior Diana Prince.

Pine and Wonder Woman's production company and studio, Warner Bros Pictures, have not commented.

Pine is best known for his role as Captain James T. Kirk in the Star Trek reboot films and has also starred in Into the WoodsThe Princess Diaries: The Royal Engagement, the action movie Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and the animated flick Rise of the Guardians

Wonder Woman is set for release in 2017 and will be directed by Patty Jenkins, who previously helmed Monster, which earned Charlize Theron an Oscar. This marks the first big screen adaptation of Wonder Woman, who also engages in a relationship with Superman in the DC Comics franchise.

Gadot will make her debut as Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder's the superhero ensemble movie sequel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
