Uh, way to not even try to make us feel better, Modern Family cast!
When E!'s own Marc Malkin caught up with the cast and executive producers at a screening of this season's finale, airing tonight on ABC, he asked stars like Julie Bowen and Ed O'Neill about when they thought the show might end.
Instead of laughing it off and assuring us that the show would run for a million more years, they kind of did just the opposite.
"It will, you know," O'Neill said. "I saw Mad Men went off the other day, and that's just how it works. That's all."
"Oh, it's coming!" Bowen said of the show's ending.
The ABC sitcom is about to head into its seventh season, so it makes sense that the stars and producers would be thinking about the eventual end.
"We'd like to think we're still maybe a couple years away," said executive producer Christopher Lloyd, and co-creator Steven Levitan agreed that they're not quite there yet, but that doesn't mean it's not on his mind.
"I think about it all the time," he said of how and when the show might take its final bow. "A lot of it is going to be take it year by year."
"We want to keep it going for as long as possible," Levitan continued. "But we very much also want to protect the show's legacy. We want to go out strong."
Hopefully, Modern Family can manage to stay strong for like five to ten more years, at least.
