America, get ready to see many of your favorite celebs wear red noses for a great cause.
The charity Comic Relief and NBC are bringing to the United States for the first time the Red Nose Day charity campaign, which has been held in the United Kingdom for decades. On May 21, the network will air a TV fundraising special featuring more than 65 celebrities. Jennifer Aniston and the band Coldplay were among the stars announced on Thursday, joining the likes of Reese Witherspoon, Benedict Cumberbatch, The Voice coaches and the Today show stars.
The event will also feature many cast members from HBO's Game of Thrones, past and present, and from Netflix's Orange Is the New Black.
"Featuring great comedy, videos produced by Funny Or Die, incredible music performances and Hollywood's favorite stars, the benefit event will help 12 charity organizations lift children and young people out of poverty, in the U.S. and throughout the world," NBC said in a statement to E! News.
Red Nose Day has been marked in the United Kingdom since 1988 with a live telethon, benefitting the main British charity Comic Relief U.K., which helps raise money for the poor. Fake red noses are sold in stores to help the cause. In the United States, you'll find them at Walgreens and Duane Reade pharmacies for $1 each.
NBC has also released a special Red Nose Day app.
