It sounds as though Barbra Streisand was understandably pretty mortified when her beloved dog, a Coton de Tulear named Samantha, bit a flight attendant when the singer was headed to Washington, D.C., on Tuesday aboard billionaire Ron Perelman's private jet.
The attendant required stitches, according to Page Six, which first reported the in-flight disturbance.
"This never happened before," a rep for Streisand explained to People. "The dog has never had this kind of behavior."
"She's the most beautiful thing you've ever seen. She's like the daughter I never had," Streisand gushed to London's Independent in 2013 about Samantha, who is now 12. "She speaks English. She understands English I swear to God. She'll come up to me and go ‘mmm'—it sounds like a baby. That means she wants water. Or she'll just look at me with those eyes and then she wants a treat. She always comes with us. I would never leave her."
Which is why Samantha, who graced the cover of Streisand's book A Passion for Design alongside the Emmy-Grammy-Oscar winner and figures prominently on her Instagram page, travels with mom everywhere.
"The flight attendant started petting the dog, and when it's a stranger, you put the hand out," Streisand's rep also said. "And the dog nipped at her, and it would be inaccurate to make it more than it is. Barbara felt terrible."
Streisand was in D.C., meanwhile, to lobby for fundraising for her pet cause, the Women's Heart Alliance.
