While the word is eagerly waiting for Kate Middleton to give birth to royal baby No. 2, her second child with husband Prince William, Irish designer Paul Costelloe has shared some candid (and controversial) observations about the Duchess of Cambridge.

"Kate is lovely, but she's no Princess Diana," the designer, who was said to be one of the late royal's favorites, told the U.K.'s Independent Style

"She's low key at the moment," he added of the 33-year-old beauty, who is known for her down-to-Earth demeanor and affinity for recycling her outfits.

Although Costelloe does share his praise for Kate, he doesn't hold back while revealing his favorite royal. "She started off as another Princess Diana, but I think I got the right one. I was lucky to have Princess Diana as my epitaph," he said.

As for why he sees few similarities between the two?

"Different backgrounds, different everything," he explained. "She's [Kate's] obviously very obedient and carries out the royal message. She won't be running around and hanging out with Elton John anytime soon."

This isn't the first time Costelloe has spoken out about Middleton, although his remarks were much more complimentary back in 2011 around the time when the William and Kate tied the knot.

"She is a normal girl, she could be living in Blackrock or Ailesbury Road, it's amazing," he previously said. "It is a great leveler and I think that what it's going to be."

Meanwhile, Middleton is currently overdue (she previously said her due date was "mid to late" April) and the U.K.'s Telegraph reported on Tuesday that the soon-to-be mother of two would likely be induced this week.

Prince George's mama was most recently spotted on Tuesday driving through the gates of Buckingham Palace, where it is believed she took her wee one for a swimming lesson. She and Prince William also celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary on Wednesday, and earlier this week, the beloved couple sent breakfast pastries to fans camped outside St. Mary's Hospital, where Middleton is expected to give birth to her second child.
