Reese Witherspoon had to endure some real pain while filming Hot Pursuit.
Not only did she end up spending a night in the hospital after Sofía Vergara accidently caused her to pop an ovary, but the Modern Family star got rough during their pseudo-lesbian kissing scene by tugging on her ponytail.
"That was her idea," Witherspoon told me at the movie's premiere last night at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. "It was not in the script. She just started pulling my hair and for the first couple of takes, I was like, 'Oh my gosh! This really hurts!' And then I was like, 'This is really funny!' So it was great!"
The two pretend to be lovers to get themselves out of a very dangerous situation. What ensues is pretty hilarious.
Vergara boasted, "I did the pulling of the hair on my own, because you know, I felt like it needed something a little bit rougher, so I just pulled it!"
In the film, Witherspoon plays a by-the-book police officer who is on the run from crooked cops while trying to protect the widow (Vergara) of a drug boss.
As I was the first to tell you, Witherspoon almost knocked out some of Vergara's teeth during filming when she accidently hit her in the mouth with a deer hoof.
"I was trying to cover myself with a deer skin and it flopped over and hit her in the teeth," Witherspoon said. "It was bad…That was like the second day of shooting and I thought she was going to quit. It wasn't funny."
Witherspoon ended up spending a night in the hospital after possibly popping an ovary when Vergara pushed her a little too hard during one of their catfights.
"I really didn't care," Vergara joked during the movie's press junket last week. "I just wanted to make sure she was not going to delay everything, that she was going to show up on the set the next day."
Hot Pursuit is in theaters on May 8.
