One of Hollywood's most versatile actors, Jeff Daniels is in talks to join the star-studded cast of the last two Divergent movies, Allegiant: Part 1 and Part 2, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Lionsgate young adult franchise has sought out the 60-year-old star from Dumb and Dumber to play the coveted role of David.

His character will be the leader of the wicked Bureau of Genetic Welfare, the authoritarian group that began the sanctions to which Tris and her divergent crew are relentlessly trying to destroy.

In the two-part conclusion of Veronica Roth's series, the enigmatic reasons behind the Bureau's creation will be revealed, especially in the second film. Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Tobias Eaton (Theo James) will be joining forces again to fight against the group's sovereign rule over the nation.

Four-time Golden Globe winner Daniels has plenty to look forward to with his upcoming roles, including his portrayal of Teddy Sanders in the sci-fi flick The Martian alongside A-listers Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain.

Daniels is also set to play Apple CEO John Sculley in Steve Jobs. This opportunity allows the Georgia native to rejoin forces with Aaron Sorkin, the creator of his former show The Newsroom as well as the writer for the highly anticipated biopic.

Allegiant: Part 1 is currently set for a release date of March 18, 2016.
