Reese Witherspoon and Sofía Vergara may have had a lot of fun making Hot Pursuit, but no one was laughing the day the Oscar winner almost caused some serious damage to her co-star's beautiful smile.
"She almost made me toothless because she hit me with a deer hoof," Vergara told me while she and Witherspoon were promoting the new comedy (in theaters on May 8).
The Wild star explained, "I was trying to cover myself with a deer skin and it flopped over and hit her in the teeth. It was bad…That was like the second day of shooting and I thought she was going to quit. It wasn't funny."
As the two previously revealed, Vergara sent Witherspoon to the emergency room after she pushed her a little too hard while shooting a catfight scene.
They think Witherspoon may have popped an ovary.
"I really didn't care," Vergara cracked. "I just wanted to make sure she was not going to delay everything, that she was going to show up on the set the next day."
Witherspoon had to spend a night in the hospital. "It was an accident," Vergara said. "Accidents happen when you're doing this kind of high intensity [work]."
Director Anne Fletcher remembers when things went terribly wrong. "Reese was like, 'This isn't a joke. I need to go to the hospital,'" she said. "It was scary…But the pro that she is, she came in the next day—popped ovary and all."
