Bruce Jenner "Won a Lot of People Over" in the Transgender Community: "He's Just a Lovable Character"

Trans model Andreja Pejic shows support for the KUWTK star

If there was one group of people extra intrigued by Bruce Jenner's recent interview, it was the transgender community.

After weeks of mysterious promos, the Olympic gold medalist and parent of six revealed he was transitioning from a man to a woman.

(At this time, Bruce Jenner has not chosen to publicly identify as a woman and so E! News will continue to refer to him as Bruce and use male pronouns, until he indicates otherwise.)

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star's bravery immediately earned the applause of many in the LGBT community including transgender model Andreja Pejic.

"It was really great," the face of a Make Up Forever campaign told E! News. "It was very human and he's just such a lovable character and you just want to give him a hug and I think a lot of people feel like that."

She continued, "I heard from a lot of friends in LA and New York. Everyone thinks it's extremely positive. I think a lot of people expected a spectacle going in and I think he's won a lot of people over."

Close to 17 million people tuned in for the two-hour sit down with Diane Sawyer. In addition, more than 972,000 tweets were sent out during the evening making it the most social Friday telecast of all time, excluding sporting events.

By being such a high-profile celebrity, Pejic argues that Bruce will become a very prominent member of the transgender community. 

"You have to be very careful with what you say. You have to understand that you sort of represent—whether you like it or not—you end up representing a whole community and there is a lot of weight on that," Pejic explained. "Stay grounded as possible and keep your head on your shoulders and at the end of the day, everyone is different. Everyone's experience is different and it's important to show all different angles."

Fans of the Kardashian family will be able to explore those new perspectives when E! debuts a new documentary series centered around the Olympic athlete embracing life as a transgender woman.

Until then, Bruce is looking forward to the future that includes plenty of supportive family members and friends. "I feel like I'm going to be okay," he told Diane. "2015 is gonna be quite a ride."
