It's been evident that Bruce Jenner's children have made for a stellar support system as he prepared to go public about transitioning into a woman.

But for the first time we're hearing about who helped Bruce the most during his most private of moments as he first opened up to his family.

(At this time, Bruce Jenner has not chosen to publicly identify as a woman and so E! News will continue to refer to him as Bruce and use male pronouns, until he indicates otherwise.)

"Kim told me a story," Jenner said, referring to step-daughter Kim Kardashian, during his interview special with Diane Sawyer that aired tonight in which he spoke out about his journey for the first time. "She goes, 'You know what really turned me around? I'm thinking about this.' And I said, 'What?' She goes, 'Kanye.'"

Kanye, of course, being Kim's husband, rapper Kanye West.

"They were talking about it," Jenner continued, "and he says to Kim, 'Look, I can be married to the most beautiful woman in the world, and I am. I can have the most beautiful little daughter in the room, I have that. But I'm nothing if I can't be me. If I can't be true to myself, they don't mean anything.'"

As tends to be the case, Kanye spoke some major truths.

"From Kanye, yeah," Jenner added reflectively. "And since then, Kimberly has by far been the most accepting and the easiest to talk to about it."

Jenner also recalled the time Kim accidentally saw him in a dress, having revealed during the sit-down with Sawyer that ex-wife Kris Jenner did see him sometimes in women's clothing when they were married.

"She kinda walked out and jumped in the car and went for a ride," Jenner smiled at the Kim memory. "And I tried to call her and say, 'Hey, you OK?' It was like this big secret in the family and we never talked about it again."

When Jenner's changing appearance made for some very speculative headlines over the past year, Kim finally confronted him, Jenner said.

"I said, 'OK, I'm so tired of lying to everybody.' I told her all my issues...and then, after it was over with, I felt much better. But, when I brought the subject up again, I said, 'Are you like avoiding this? I would understand that. Are you OK?' And she goes, 'I just thought it was one of those subjects that I couldn't talk about.'"

"Love is the courage to live the truest, best version of yourself. Bruce is love. I love you Bruce. #ProudDaughter," Kim tweeted tonight after the family gathered with Bruce to watch the interview.
