Frances Bean Cobain Makes Rare Public Appearance With Courtney Love to Support New Kurt Cobain Documentary

Frances Bean Cobain has only done one interview with Rolling Stone about the new HBO documentary Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, but she did share a few words at last night's premiere of the film.

Even director Brett Morgan didn't know she was going speak until his publicist whispered the news in his ear at the end of his introduction.

"My name is Frances Bean Cobain and the reason I wanted to come up here and speak to all of you is because I have seen this movie six times. Initially upon seeing it, I felt like I could only watch it once and the reason I've been able to watch it six times is because of the film Brett made," said Frances, 22, who is an executive producer of the film.

She added, "I didn't know Kurt but I feel very strongly that he would be exceptionally proud of this film."

Frances was only 20 months old when the Nirvana frontman took his own life.

In one of her rare public appearances with Courtney Love, Frances walked the red carpet last night with her mom before hightailing it into the theater while Love posed for solo pics. Frances was dressed in an black jumpsuit ensemble while Love wore a fire engine red gown.

Montage of Heck is a sometimes terrifying look at Cobain's life, especially the footage him and Love in the throws of their addiction. Their daughter was just two weeks old when child welfare services temporarily removed her from their home after the Hole rocker admitted to Vanity Fair that she used heroin while she was pregnant.

"It touches on some dark subjects but at the end of the day, I think that the film provides fans of Nirvana and not fans of Nirvana a basic understanding of who Kurt was as a human being and I think that's been lost within the romanticism and the myth of him and his story," Frances Bean said. "What this movie will provide, hopefully, is a real understanding of who he was and I like he'd be really proud to have this movie made about him, so I'd like to thank Brett a lot."

Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck will be in select theaters on Friday, April 24. It premieres on HBO on May 4.
