Julianne Moore's performance in Still Alice earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress, so it seems safe to say she's got some serious acting chops.
Apparently not everyone agrees, though. The 54-year-old star was reportedly going to be the face of Turkey's tourism campaign, but according to a local media report in the Hürriyet Daily News, Turkish officials rejected the bid due to Moore's "poor acting."
According to the report, Moore shot a promotional film in L.A. last year titled "Home Of" in which she "was seen revisiting her childhood journeys to Turkey while traveling on an airplane." The Culture and Tourism Ministry reportedly disapproved of the actress' performance in the clip and asked for a reshoot, which, per the Hürriyet Daily News, she declined to do. (E! News reached out to Moore for comment but did not receive an immediate response.)
Per the Hürriyet Daily News, Turkish Culture and Tourism ministry officials declined to release an official statement about the cancellation of Moore's reported campaign because they do not comment on unfinished projects. The owner of Iconisus & I Mean It, the advertising agency said to have been behind behind the campaign, says it took a $1.5 million hit due to the cancellation of the $4 million project.
From the beginning, though, choosing Moore to be the face of Turkish tourism caused a bit of controversy. According to a local report, "a number of prominent figures in Turkey, from advertisers to politicians," were opposed to her in this role and even slammed the actress' "depressive persona."
Moore isn't the only star to reportedly get involved with with Turkey's tourism campaign. In fact, "over 30 similar films" with other actors have been made, ministry sources claim to the Hürriyet Daily News.
