Jane's baby has arrived!
Gina Rodriguez says we'll see her give birth in the upcoming season finale of Jane the Virgin.
"Jane yells," Gina told me the other day on the set of a super-secret photo shoot (I promised I wouldn't reveal the hush-hush project). "She ain't superhuman. She does yell…but it's a beautiful birth. It really is."
While the Golden Globe winner isn't a mom herself, she was actually in the delivery room when her sister gave birth. "It's a beautiful thing," Gina said, adding, "You see how much a woman is a superhero when they give birth. It's just phenomenal. It almost can't be recreated in my opinion."
Even so, she said, "It's probably the most vulnerable I've ever been on-screen."
She's not planning on having her own kids in the near future. (Gina and her boyfriend, Revenge actor Henri Esteve, have been dating since just about the time she landed her star-making role on Jane.) "I'm going to give birth to my career first," she said. "But, of course, one day—I hope one day, I hope to God that's in my story."
As for season two of Jane, Ms. Rodriguez insists she doesn't know what the writers have planned. Filming doesn't begin until mid-August.
But I had to ask: Does she want Jane to end up with Michael or Rafael?
"If I say, I'm going to get in so much trouble," Gina said.
But then she confessed, "I, as Gina, I go back and forth between who I would love to see Jane with. What would be beautiful is Jane with Rafael and the family together and it's glorious. It's magical. And then there's another side, where Michael just complemented Jane very well. Michael loved Jane through and through with lots of purity."
