The CW has canceled Hart of Dixie after four seasons, according to tweets from creator Leila Gerstein. "The final three episodes of #HartofDixie begin tonight. Buckle up, I think you will enjoy the ride. Xo," she wrote on March 6.
She then continued, "No one out there loves #HOD more than me. I would have gone 17 years! But I assure you, we prepared for this...And the finale will be tremendously satisfying to all."
While the CW is not commenting on HOD's future, according to Gerstein, the Rachel Bilson-fronted dramedy will end its run on Friday, March 27 with a finale fittingly titled "Bluebell."
When we spoke to Gerstein in advance of the season four premiere, she wasn't sure if this season would be the final season.
"Well, I can't speak to that, as the decision to renew or cancel is out of my hands," Gerstein told E! News. "I can tell the fans that this season is for you and you're going to love this season. No one is going to feel unsatisfied by the end. Obviously we hope for many, many more seasons but everyone will be happy with this season."
If Hart of Dixie does indeed end after this season, Gerstein promises fans "won't be left unsatisfied" with the finale.
"I will say that there is a lot of closure in the season finale and there is a definite feeling of celebration at the end of the season," Gerstein said. "Everyone is going to be satisfied that by the end of the 10 episodes, all the central love triangles have been resolved, all the central questions have been answered and we're going to have a lot of fun along the way. We have been saving a lot of stuff for each of the stories and we decided to burn through it all this year. But there are also certainly doors left open for the future!"
At the 2015 Winter TCA Press Tour, CW president Mark Pedowitz addressed the show's future, saying, "We have to see the ratings." He then talked about the upcoming season four finale, saying, "If [Dixie] ends, it's a great series finale. And if it doesn't end, it's a great season finale."
In addition to Bilson, the CW charmer also stars Wilson Bethel, Scott Porter, Jaime King and Cress Williams. This season has been one the fans have been waiting for, as Zoe (Bilson) and Wade (Bethel) are finally back together and are gearing up for their first child together, Lemon (King) and Lavon (Williams) reunited after years of denying their feelings for each other and George (Porter) and AnnaBeth (Kaitlyn Black) realized they had feelings for each other and began a relationship.
Hart of Dixie would be the CW's only cancellation so far this season, with the network renewing eight of its series in January, including The Vampire Diaries, Arrow and The Flash. Fellow bubble show, Beauty and the Beast, was surprisingly picked up for a fourth season before its third season even aired (it premieres on May 21).
Hart of Dixie's season (and possible series) finale will air on Friday, March 27 on the CW.
