Not only did he appear in Carly Rae Jepsen's music video, lip-syncing his way through the whole song, but he also just surprised a group of Girl Scouts in San Francisco by helping them out in a very special way! The group, who was working on State Street in downtown Los Altos, received an amazing treat when Hanks purchased four boxes, donated an extra $20 and helped the girls sell their cookies, according to the Los Altos Town Crier.
Unfortunately, it's unknown which type he purchased for himself. But for some reason we're thinking he's a Samoas guy...
To try to convince people to buy Samoas, Thin Mints, etc., Hanks promised consumers he would take a picture with them, if and only if they agreed to buy the cookies. That's quite a sales tactic, Tom!
Resident Archana Appanna, whose daughter was one of the girls hanging out with Hanks, told the newspaper that everyone was in complete shock about Hanks' help.
"I'm still on cloud nine," she said. "We did not know who he was [at first] because he covered his face with a baseball cap and glasses."
Soon after, they realized who their famous customer was and chased after him and manage to catch up with him in front of a local bookstore. According to the paper, the group of three Scouts asked him if really was who they thought he was and then snapped some pictures with him, but then other people started to notice him!
Another family asked for a picture, too, but per the paper, he replied, "Only if you buy cookies from these young ladies."
Appanna dished that the Saving Private Ryan star was "so personable" and "so down to earth."
Hanks was with his college-age son, Truman, who is a student at Stanford University, visiting the town to check out a typewriter shop. He reportedly is a huge collector of typewriters. The shop's owner told the paper, "I never realized how distinctive his voice is.
"It was right out of a movie."
