Between having worn hats for warmth during the winter and prepping outfits for the music festival circuit ahead, we're keeping the ensemble toppers in heavy rotation. But with busting out the brims comes some serious style landmines—namely static, weird hair lumps and the flat, dreaded hat hair.

Somehow, Kate Middleton seems to wear fascinators without falling prey to bad hair (and we would very much like some of that mojo). So we came, with hat in hand, to E! Style Collective member and celebrity stylist Jennifer J., who has worked with January Jones and Kristen Stewart, for secrets on how to dodge the dicey side of donning toppers.

Create body: Help prevent flat hair syndrome by styling your locks for major bounce. Apply mousse, flip your head upside down and blow-dry your hair, pushing hair toward the face to create volume at the roots.

Flip your part: "Parting your hair on the opposite side of where you normally part it will keep your hair from staying flat after taking your hat off," Jennifer said.

Banish static: Dryer sheets help tame static and flyaways that plague hat wearers. For a step up from the DIY option, try using Kerastase Carré Lissant Hairstyle Touchup Sheets, which look like dryer sheets, but are covered in a film of pomade wax to help disperse product to strands without gooping up hands.

Move forward: "Don't push hair back before putting a hat on your head," Jennifer advised. "Instead, move hair further forward so you won't have flat hair when removing your hat."

Pack a serum: Often housed in travel-friendly bottles, hair serums can add moisture, reduce static and double as a styling tool for wonky hair, when lightly applied.

No matter how often you toggle between rocking a hat or no hat, these tricks will keep hair seamlessly stylish all day long.
