So the all-lady Ghostbusters film that Paul Feig is directing hasn't scratched the itch after all.

Sony Pictures is still planning on a new Ghostbusters movie, with Ivan Reitman—who directed the 1984 original and its 1989 sequel—onboard to produce with an assist from Channing Tatum's production company, Free Association.

Joe and Anthony Russo, the brothers who helmed Captain America: The Winter Soldier, are attached to direct and producer, while Iron Man 3 scribe Drew Pearce is penning the screenplay. Moreover, Reitman and original star Dan Aykroyd are setting up a new shingle called Ghostcorps on the Sony lot to both make this film and then, if all goes accordingly, expand the Ghostbusters universe (via merchandise, film and TV development, etc.).

According to Deadline, which was first to report on the current state of the long-gestating project, the hope is that Tatum will be hoisting a proton pack of his own in the movie once cameras start rolling.

The original plan (or one of them, at least) was for Reitman to direct and production was supposed to be getting underway at the beginning of this year. But after Harold Ramis' untimely death, Reitman pulled out as director.

"There has been all kinds of stuff, unofficially written aboutGhostbusters," Reitman told Deadline at the time. "I've been reading things online for about four years, speculation on who's writing, what they're writing, who's in it, who we will use, and who's directing. We'd decided not to comment up till now, I wasn't sure what I was going to do, and it was never clear what Bill [Murray] was going to do. A lot of things happened in the last few months, the most significant of which was the passing of Harold, who was a very good friend who was extraordinarily influential in my career. We did five movies together including both Ghostbusters."

Reitman noted that the working script featured "the originals in a very minor role."

Sony, meanwhile, has the Feig-directed Ghostbusters underway first, starring the hotly anticipated foursome of Melissa McCarthyKristen WiigKate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. The reboot is due in theaters July 22, 2016.
