Robin Williams' character Patch Adams believed that laughter was always the best medicine, and it seems like Bill Cosby is of the same mentality.
The comedian, who has been embroiled in scandal following sexual assault allegations, has vehemently denied any wrongdoing in paper statements but released a video message for the first time Monday morning, in which he assured fans he would still be performing in his upcoming scheduled events.
Appearing to be talking on the phone, Cosby reassures the mystery person on the other end, "You know I'll be hilarious." It seems that this is one of his first attempts to rehabilitate his reputation after more than 20 women accused the The Cosby Show star of sexual assault.
The video also comes with a message from Cosby that reads, "Dear fans, I hope you enjoy my wonderful video message that's filled with laughter...Hey, hey, hey, I'm far from finished."
The 77-year-old actor hasn't been charged and continues to perform where he even poked fun at his ongoing situation during one of his stand-up performances in Ontario. Cosby reportedly saw a woman exiting the front row and asked where she was going. She responded that she was going to grab a drink and asked if he'd like one.
Cosby reportedly replied, "I already have one," pointing to a bottle of water next to him on stage, and added, "You have to be careful about drinking around me."
His joke cued some gasps that were then followed by claps and laughter; however, not everyone found the humor in the situation. Two men were also ejected from the show after one of them yelled, "We don't love you, Bill!" As security pulled him away, the man screamed, "You are a rapist. I'm being ejected because you are a rapist."
The rest of the crowd booed the ejected man, and at the end of the nearly two-hour set the audience gave the comedian a standing ovation. He also has some celebrities coming to his defense, including Vivica A. Fox. During an appearance on the Meredith Viera Show, Fox told the host of her experience working with him, "[Cosby] was nice, kind. There was no sexual overtones or anything, so I defend him and I stand by him as well, too."
