Looks like NBC isn't pledging its allegiance. The network has canceled freshman spy drama Allegiance.

The new series ran for only five episodes before getting the boot, though it should come as no surprise since the show premiered to low ratings and kept falling each week. The premiere logged 5 million total viewers and a 1.1 demo rating, while the last episode earned only 3.4 million viewers with a 0.8 rating.

NBC is already looking ahead, and is shaking up its schedule in the wake of the cancellation.

The network's other new show, The Slap, will move to Allegiance's vacated timeslot moving forward. The Slap previously aired on Thursdays at 8 p.m., it will now air at 10 p.m. effective immediately.

Allegiance starred Gavin Stenhouse as Alex O'Connor, a gifted CIA analyst who, unknowingly, is actually investigating his own family, as his parents Katya (Hope Davis) and Mark O'Connor (Scott Cohen) are undercover, retired Russian spies. The Slap stars Zachary Quinto, Thandie Newton and Peter Sarsgaard, and is a family drama about the aftermath of an adult slapping a misbehaving child.

In The Slap's former timeslot will be Dateline: The Real Blacklist hosted by Richard Engel. The NBC News series will "focus on conspiracy-themed investigations and crimes that involve larger-than-life perpetrators and circumstances," NBC said in a release.

TVLine first reported the news.
