Paula Patton is keeping her spirits up and has some sound advice for anyone going through personal turmoil, five months after she filed for divorce from Robin Thicke.
The 39-year-old actress and the 37-year-old "Blurred Lines" singer wed nine years ago and were high school sweethearts. They share a 4-year-old son, Julian.
When asked what advice she would give for people going through tough times, Patton told E! News, "Keep smiling."
"You know, even if you want to frown, turn it upside down because that releases endorphins and really, remember to be grateful," she added. "We have negativity in life—all of us do—but it's what we choose to focus on. Usually, there's much more positive than negative and if you focus on that, you think, God, whatever you want to think, and you stay in that place, I think you're a happier person and more blessings come to you."
Patton did not mention Thicke during the interview but did talk about their boy.
She filed for divorce on Oct. 3 at a Los Angeles court and their legal split has not yet been finalized. She and Thicke announced eight months prior that they had called it quits.
Days after the divorce filing, Patton stepped out looking like a rock star, smiling. She's also been virtually glowing at press events for her upcoming documentary Women Hyphenated and new Ellen Tracy campaign.
Thicke had attempted to repair their relationship following the split."
The singer dedicated his 2014 album Paula to his estranged wife. The record was a flop. He performed a ballad from it at the 2014 BET Awards, saying on stage, "I'd like to dedicate this to my wife. I miss you and I'm sorry." He also dedicated a song to Patton at one of his concerts, telling the crowd, "For y'all that don't know, me and my wife separated but I'm trying to get my girl back."
The music video for his single "Get Her Back" contained depictions of text messages such as "Why Why Why Why Why???," "I'm sorry," "You drink too much," "You embarrassed me" and "I can't make love to you anymore."
