Don't do this to us, Jo!

Sadly, J.K. Rowling isn't penning a Harry Potter prequel, crushing all of our hopes and dreams. The famed author teased fans on Twitter Thursday when she tweeted that she would be writing a book in honor of World Book Day. Without giving any other details, fans were left to deal with their own minds...

Could it be another Harry Potter installment? Would it be another book under her pseudonym, Robert Galbraith? What could it be?!

Just when we were at our wits end debating what Rowling could be up to on this glorious day, she teased fans with a picture of Narcissa Malfoy and Percy Weasley, hinting that there could be a prequel in the works! GAH!

But what simultaneously acted as the greatest gift of all time also doubled as a piece of soul-crushing news. Why? Because the Harry Potter creator was "KIDDING!" Take a moment to wipe the tears away from your eyes as you come to terms with the ending of Harry Potter all over again.

While she might enjoy playing a trick on her fans, we're going to continue to wonder about the possibilities behind this non-existent Narcissa-Percy fanfic. Although, we probably should have seen this joking coming from a mile away since a new bibliography about the author reveals she grew "sick" of the series!

"I am so sick of re-reading [Prisoner of Azkaban] that I'll be hard put to smile when it comes to doing public readings from it," she wrote in a letter to her editor, Emma Matthewson, as quoted by bibliographer Philip Errington. "But perhaps the feeling will have worn off by next summer..."

Thankfully, it did, because she blessed us with four more books! Now if only she would give us the prequel that she teased us about...ugh!
