When you think of Prince, you don't think of an athlete or basketball player. You think of iconic, legendary, incredible, etc. performer.

But we're here to tell you that the "Purple Rain" crooner was, in fact, a basketball player...in junior high! And bonus—he was good! St. Paul Star Tribune reporter Libor Jany tweeted incredible throwback photos of the singer before he became the star we all know and love, and they're everything.

"Another Prince-related clip from the Strib archives, looking back at his hooping days at Bryant Junior High," Jany posted along with the photo.

Just look at his hair! Look at everybody's hair! Everything about it is all you could ever ask for and more. Even better, Jany tweeted another archival photo from the newspaper that features an article about the singer's athletic abilities.

"[Prince] was good enough as a freshman to make the Central union varsity basketball team," said Richard Robinson, his former basketball coach. "Prince was an excellent player; he was like the sixth or seventh man. He was an excellent ball handler, a good shooter and very short.

"Probably with a different group of people he would have been a starter," the coach continued. "But, as they turned out, they were probably the best ball team that ever came along at Central [High School]. I knew he wanted to be starting and felt he should be starting. He was unhappy and he expressed that many, many times."

Little did the "Kiss" crooner know he would never have to sit on the sidelines ever again! The legendary musician since has proven that he can do absolutely no wrong in the eyes of his fans—or anyone really—after his appearance at the 2015 Grammys dressed in orange sequins and teaching us how to give an epic side eye.

Bow down to Prince!
