A lot of people were upset when Jon Stewart announced he would be leaving The Daily Show at the end of this year. There were sad tweets, angry tweets and confused tweets. There was reminiscing and nostalgia.
But before you go thinking that the entire world is bummed over Stewart's departure, you must remember a very large constituency that is anything but sad about his retirement: Fox News.
The comedian opened the monologue of last night's show with a few, er, highlights of the news channel celebrating his announcement. The clips showed newscasters calling him things like "a little nasty" and "not a force for good." But then they also accused him of bending the truth (or, rather, the words of Fox News' anchors) for the sake of a good laugh and a better story. And that Jon Stewart was not going to take lightly.
So just what did he do? He challenged Fox News to a lie-off. Or, in his words, a matchup of "your 'distortions' and 'lack of fact footholds' against mine.'" And, since Jon Stewart never does anything halfway, the result was a Vine containing screenshots of all (or, rather, a lot of) the falsities that he believes the network has told. More specifically, it was 50 Fox News lies in six seconds.
In case you didn't catch them all, here a select few that were included:
Denver Post Hired an Editor to Promote Pot
Colorado Food Stamp Recipients Can Use ATMs to Get Cash to Buy Pot
Some Doctors Say Ebola Can Be Transmitted Through the Air by Sneeze or Cough
Black Unemployment in Ferguson 3x Higher Than White Unemployment Because of Obama's Economic Policies
Climate Scientists Fabricated Temperature Readings
People Will Go to Jail if They Don't Buy Health Insurance
Ouch. Sounds like the lesson here is not to mess with Jon Stewart. Oh, and not fabricating news stories is a good one, too.
